OUR STORY

The WELS Coulee Women’s Retreat began as a thought to fill the need for a women’s retreat in the Coulee Region (part of the “driftless” section of western/southern WI and eastern MN).

In 2018 a small group of ladies met for a day at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tomah, WI. From there, a group of women from multiple congregations joined forces and WELS Coulee Women’s Retreat was founded. After much planning and unfortunate delays due to COVID, we were able to come together in 2021 at Christ Lutheran Church in West Salem, WI. In 2022 the retreat moved to Luther High School to be more centrally located for the congregations as well as make use of the beautiful facilities that we support on the campus.

WELS Coulee Women’s Retrat is in process of applying for 501(3)c nonprofit status.

Members of the planning committee come from a variety of backgrounds and congregations in the WELS/ELS synod.

Our mission and purpose can be summarized in three phrases:

Gather. Encourage. Go Forth.

Gather.

It is our mission to provide a regular opportunity for WELS women and their friends to gather together for a weekend retreat firmly rooted in God's Word.

"Amen I tell you again: If two of you on earth agree to ask for anything, it will be done for them by my Father who is in heaven. In fact where two or three have gathered together in my name, there I am among them.” - Matthew 18:19-20

Encourage.

Through studying God's Word and enjoying Christian fellowship, we aim to encourage each other in our faith throughout the weekend.

"He died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. Therefore, encourage one another and build each other up, just as you are also doing." - 1 Thessalonians 5:10-11

Go Forth.

We pray this retreat will equip us to go forth and share God's good news of salvation as we let our light shine in our everyday lives.

"For this is what the Lord has instructed us: 'I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the end of the earth.'” - Acts 13:47
